Visit to FMS for on-the-job training in calibration (2015)

Two technical experts from WMO/RIC Tsukuba visited the Fiji Meteorological Service (FMS) from 29 October to 13 November 2015 to attend the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) third country training program as instructors. Ten trainees from nine WMO Members in Oceania (the Cook Islands, Kiribati, Samoa, the Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu, Vanuatu, Nauru and Fiji) participated in the program as part of the JICA Project for Reinforcing the Meteorological Training Functions of FMS.

FMS technical officers who visited RIC Tsukuba in June 2015 for on-the-job training in meteorological instrument calibration also contributed to the training by sharing their knowledge and expertise. During the training, the attendees calibrated their own traveling standards and operational instruments using FMS standards, and recognized the importance of regular instrument calibration and inspection for quality-assured observation with international traceability.

The training is considered to have been successful and to have contributed to the improvement of meteorological services provided by all of the participating members including FMS and JMA.
